It’s Family Dashboard Time!

How To Connect With Your Spouse During The Holidays

The Family Dashboard is a central tool we use to help make your family Crazy Cool!

The strength of your family will be determined by the strength of your family relationships. And the Family Dashboard is your tool to quicky assess all the relationships in your home.

What is a Family Dashboard?

It’s a way for you to assess, sometimes short-term and sometimes long-term, the strength of your family relationships.

Use it every day as you pursue a Crazy Cool Family.

We love it because you can see every relationship all in one place so you can focus on one or more relationships at a time.

Below you’ll find an example of a Family Dashboard for a two-child home.

If you have one kid, there are six relationships. If you have two kids, there are 10; three kids 15 four kids, 21; five kids, 28; six kids, 36; and seven kids (which is what we have), there are 45 relationships!

As we continued to ask God how to create our best family, He showed us the power of relationships. Over time, we realized even though we didn’t have this drawn out and displayed somewhere visible, we were using this dashboard in our minds to direct our family.

We wanted to be connected to God. We wanted our marriage to be strong. And we pursued relationships with our kids to connect them to us, to each other, and to God.

One day, we drew the Dashboard to explain it to another parent. Literally, on a napkin. And we looked at it and said, “Wow! That’s it! That’s what we have been doing! We work on making all these lines strong.”

So goes those lines, so goes our family! The strength of your family is determined by the strength of your family relationships!

Then we said, “This is so cool! We’ve got to get this into the lives of other parents.”

Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 22? The most important thing in life and family is relationships. Your Family Dashboard is a tool to quickly and easily assess the strength of each relationship in your home.

How to Use This Tool:

Take a few minutes either alone or with your spouse and look at your personal Family Dashboard. Look at each line. Make a list of these relationships.

For example, if you have two kids, write down your relationship with each one of them and then ask God and yourself what that relationship is like.

  • Is it strong?
  • Is there a lot of conflict?
  • Do you avoid each other or welcome each other?
  • How much do you listen to that kid?
  • Do they want to talk to you?
  • What are your common interests?
  • Do you like that child?
  • What are you like when you are around them?

This is the relationships you have with your kids. What about their relationships with each other? What about your marriage? What about your relationship with God?

As you examine each of the lines on your Family Dashboard, God starts to direct your heart to where these relationships need attention. He starts to take you away from focusing on behavior and focusing on the hearts of your family. Yours, your spouse, your kids.

These lines are the key to your family. The strength of these lines will determine the strength of your family.

Start using your Family Dashboard and watch it make a difference in your life!
