A Parent’s Pursuit of God

How To Connect With Your Spouse During The Holidays

Episode 145

This week is all about you. This is about you and God.

We talk a lot about kid relationship line but this week we are focusing on our Parent-to-God line.

When your relationship is tied to God is drips down to your family relationships. Our #1 commitment in life is to pursue God. It’s super important to our ministry and our family.  We realized a long time ago how our relationship with God determines the health of everything else.

Life can be full and all the things are not bad but they can become a distraction from the best relationship in our lives; our relationship with God.

If we are not careful, we get distracted from what we are created for.

What Are We Created For?

Take a minute and ask yourself these questions:

  • What am I created for?
  • Why am I here?
  • What do I live for?

Family, kids, jobs, sex, pets, a house, cars, and all the things are great. They are not what we are made to live for. They are not our life’s purpose.

“The glory of God is man fully alive.”  – John Eldridge

What Does it Mean to be Fully Alive? Why Does this Glorify God and Help us?

What does it mean to choose life? To choose God! The ultimate creator Himself.

When we choose to live for, serve, and pay attention to God and give Him our heart, we are fully alive. To know God (really know Him) is what makes us fully alive. It’s choosing life.

When we are fully alive, the Lord is our life.

What Does it Mean to Know God?

We picture knowing God as sitting with the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). I know they are special and my holy authority. They also feel like my friends who sit with me and help talk through my life. They don’t judge me. They are for me.

Another way we know God is by receiving His love. It changes the way I feel. When I experience His voice and the way he says, “I love you.”

The word “know” brings a lot of revelation. To feel known is to be loved. When we know God and feel known by God, it equates to love.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made (He knows everything about me, so he can love me.)

When I think about who He is it makes me love Him. Reading His word helps us know Him. When you study His word, you get to know who He is and what He has done.

John 17:3 says, “Now this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”

Eternal life starts right now! We don’t’ have relationships with God just for eternity, it’s for today!

What is worship all about? Why is it so important? Worship is all about bringing heaven to earth by inviting God in. Worship is our invitation to God.

It’s doesn’t just have to be with music. As fathers and mothers we can bring honor and praise into your home through all kinds of actions.

What does it look like in your life to praise God?

  • Making a commitment to your local church
  • Singing with other believers (with passion)
  • Laughter and joy through all seasons
  • Choosing to see the good in life
  • Smiling at people
  • Using words to bless the Lord and others
  • Delight in God because He delights in us
God calls Himself father because He wants us to relate to Him that way. We are His kids and He delights in us. It’s an act of worship for us to enjoy God!

Pursue God By…

  • Knowing God/What we were created to do
  • Worshipping Him
  • Have a missional focus

Matthew 22:37-40 is our CCF core verse. It says, “Love the lord your God with all your heart soul and mind, love your neighbor as yourself.”

Take from God and give to God. Receive God’s love and share it from others.

John 14:34-35, “Love one another as I have loved you….. by this all people will know you are my disciples.”

Pursuing God helps us pursue others.

We are called to be missional and live our lives to help and love others. When we are filled with God we can pursue others with a genuine love.

Who in your life are you loving and telling about God?

Parents, we encourage you to take an honest look at your relationship with God and take stock of what you believe. It will change your family when you start investing in your relationship with God.

Your relationship with God is at the top of the CCF house for a reason. It is the life flow of you for your family. It’s good for your family and ultimately, it’s the best life for you!

Don’t let this overwhelm you, once you finish listening just stop and say, “I love you God. I bless you. I want to know you.” Same something to Him and start building your relational line with God.

We hope this podcast made you say, “Yes! I want to have a relationship with my loving God.”
