Building Strong Bonds: Honoring Your Children and Earning Their Respect

Listen to Audio

What is honor? Honor is giving value to someone and treating them according to that value.

Do you feel honored by your kids? Respected or run over? Taken care of or taken advantage of?

Can I give you a suggestion? Start by creating a culture of honor in your home. So often as we watch parents interact with their children, we find the parents have trained their children to be dishonoring because the parents are first dishonoring to the kids and to other people in their lives.

  • Do you talk negatively about your boss or do you show him or her honor?
  • What do you say about the coach of their team?
  • How do you treat your spouse?
  • How do you talk to your kids when you ask them to do something?

Honor is a way of life. We honor God and create a culture of honor in our homes when we honor those around us.

And remember we don’t honor people because their behavior is worthy but we honor people because we are people of honor. “We love because he first loved us” (I John 4:19). Our love and honor for others shows love and honor for God and will enable us to create a culture of honor in our home.

Want to be honored by your children? First create a culture of honor in your home.
