“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.”
NIV 11-9:1 Philippians
Paul prays for the Philippians for them to have “depth of insight.” That is a great prayer we at Crazy Cool Family also pray for you as a parent. That you would have the depth of insight to “discern what is best” in all your parenting decisions.
What is insight? It is the capacity to gain an accurate and deep understanding of a person or thing. Now sometimes the way our kids act we may think they are a thing, but for now let’s focus on the person.
Insight gives us understanding so we can discern what is best. We can’t gain insight in the moment. We don’t usually have time to go look up the answers. We have to be ready with insight when the moment happens.
So how do we gain insight into that person — our child or our spouse we love so much – before we face the situation? Three ways:
1. We pursue the relationship with the child or spouse. The more we pursue relationship, the more insight we will have.
2. We pursue our relationship with God. As we mature in our faith, we will have more insight into everything in life including parenting.
3. We pursue learning to be a parent. Our personal relationship with God is most important, but we also need to understand the dynamics of family relationships and culture.
Our prayer for you as a spouse and parent is for you to have depth of insight so you can discern what is best.
