You know how the flight attendants tell you to put your mask on first and then help your children? This principle is a great parenting lesson.
We see a lot of stressed out, burned out parents. Parents are pouring out so much. Working to provide, taking kids to activities, being involved in church, taking care of meals, managing the home and finances. The list goes on and on.
But often we find these parents have neglected the most important thing — putting the mask on themselves first. They are without oxygen because they are not doing anything to bring themselves the energy, life and hope they need to fuel their day.
Often when people talk about self-care they talk about vacations or hunting trips or massages. But that is not what God says is our way to health. “”But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.“ Matthew 6:33
God wants us to seek Him first every day to get the energy and hope we need for our day. At the start of our day and throughout our day we need to find ways to connect with God to get the oxygen we need to survive the onslaughts the enemy throws at us every day.
We can’t give what we don’t have. ”May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.“ Romans 15:13
If you want to overflow with parenting life, be filled up with God first.
