Who are we allowing to define our children? Are we letting the world shape their identities, or are we turning to Jesus for their true definition? It takes intentionality in our homes to ensure our children understand who God says they are. He declares that they are loved, accepted, wanted, chosen, set apart, and created for a unique destiny.
As 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us:
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
This is the truth from Scripture about our kids.
In contrast, the world often pressures them to achieve, perform, and excel in order to be considered successful. Our children will encounter countless opportunities to be defined by society's standards rather than by God's promises. As parents, we have the privilege and responsibility to intercept these worldly messages and guide our children toward their true identities.
We can help our children understand who they were created to be by teaching them the Word of God. Regularly reading Scripture together, discussing its meaning, and applying its principles to daily life can build a strong foundation of faith. Additionally, surrounding them with life-giving people—those who affirm and encourage their God-given identity—can reinforce the messages we impart at home.
By fostering an environment where our children know they are valued and loved, we empower them to stand firm against the pressures of the world. Let’s commit to intentionally defining their identities in Christ, so they can confidently embrace the unique purposes God has for them.
