Do you get anxious when your child is sick?
We talk to parents all the time who tell us they get really anxious about the physical health of their children. Our anxiousness comes from a deep love for our children, but the enemy wants to take that wonderful love and turn it into fear and lack of hope.
Anxiousness about the health of our children is really no different than any other anxiousness. Jesus calls it worry. The answer is faith. Seems like a trite answer but faith unlocks so much. In fact, faith in God can actually release healing.
So often Jesus told people their faith made them well or he couldn’t heal his hometown people because of their lack of faith.
What if our lack of faith actually hinders the healing of our children? In contrast, what if our faith actually releases healing? Not only in our own hearts, but also in affecting the spiritual and physical well-being of our family.
When we are anxious our response is faith. Faith that God is working toward our good. Faith that He is in control. Faith in His healing power.
The answer to our anxiousness is to release our anxiousness to Jesus. In 1 Peter 5:7, Peter tells us to “cast all our anxiety on him because he cares for you.” We believe He cares for us and desires the best for us and that care includes our children.
The best thing we can do when our children are sick is follow the words of Paul in Philippians 4:6-7. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
God promises us He works toward our good and He promises us a peace which transcends all understanding in every situation, including the difficult times we face when our children are sick.
