“And this is His command: to believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us.”
— 1 John 3:23 (NIV)
That’s it, really. This is what we’re called to do as believers in Jesus Christ: believe and love.
If we let this command sink into our hearts, we’ll find that parenting becomes both simpler and more rewarding.
We believe God is for us and that He is good to us. How might our parenting change when we act in faith instead of fear?
Love means looking out for the good of others. What if our parenting was guided by prioritizing the good of our family? What if our lives were less about ourselves and more about sharing God’s love with our spouse and kids? How would that change our parenting actions?
One quick note: John instructs us to believe first, then love others. Belief in Jesus—trusting that He is for us and that He is good—is the essential first step toward truly loving. Trusting in Jesus gives us the security to love freely, without expecting anything in return. When we obey in love, we trust that God will fill our lives with abundant joy, peace, and purpose.
What if our parenting was defined by belief in Jesus and a commitment to truly loving our family? How would that change the way we parent today?
