Today’s tip is super practical: How can you inspire your child to greatness?
- Affirm their God-given qualities and talents. Make an effort to talk more about your child’s strengths and less about areas for improvement.
- Look beyond current struggles to see their potential. Focus on what your child can become rather than where they may fall short. If they’re struggling in school, say, “I believe you can be a great student who learns to study well and apply the intelligence God has given you.” Help them envision a bright future.
- Speak life and positivity into their dreams. When they say, “I want to be an NBA (or WNBA) star,” resist the urge to “bring them back to reality” with statistics. Instead, dream with them: “Why do you want to be an NBA star? What do you think would be fun about that?” Let the world bring reality—you bring inspiration!
- Pray for wisdom to recognize and nurture their unique gifts. God has created your child with unique talents to bring value to the world. Ask God to help you see their gifts and to show you how to nurture them.
- Consistently remind them of their worth and capabilities. Use affirming words like, “You are a mighty warrior!” or “Remember, you are a child of the King!” Speak often about the unique qualities God has revealed to you about your child.
Your words have a powerful impact. As you make these practical efforts part of your everyday parenting, you’ll become an inspiring parent and help your children live inspired lives!
