“Play is their language; toys are their words.” - Kenzie
“If you play with them when they are little, they will feel safe when they are older.” - Suz
What do you think when you read these two quotes? Our 4th daughter, McKenzie Reaume did a podcast with Suz on this topic and it blew our minds. We talked about it for weeks after because it sparked a new mindset in our parenting and grandparenting.
What would our parenting be like if we really believed this?
What if we stopped our rat-raced lives and simply played?
What if playing with our child is the very thing they need to feel safe, loved, seen, and connected to us today?
McKenzie finished grad school for counseling, and this is one of her passions as she lives her life as a counselor, mom, wife, daughter, and aunt. She values play. She sees the good in slowing down and being with someone. She has challenged us to do the same and today we are challenging you.
Here’s your challenge:
Find space today to stop and just be.
Play with your child/children for at least 15 minutes.
Listen to your child as you play – what are they saying (or showing you) with their toys? Use this to connect with them.
Play is powerful. If you make space, it can strengthen your family relationships today.
