A few ways as a parent to maintain a healthy work home balance.
Three key points that we tested throughout the last 30 years in our home and with our work balance.
#1 Yes to busy seasons but no to a busy life.
A busy season is OKAY, but a busy life is not. It is okay to have times and seasons when your life is full, and you are feeling maxed out. If this way of life becomes the norm, then we may have a problem.
If you are always feeling maxed out, always busy, always saying yes to your boss in this area, then it will cost your family greatly in the long run. If you are constantly coming home, maxed out and burnt out, your family will be receiving the leftovers, and you will reap that fruit in your home. It’s okay to have a busy season or a busy couple of seasons but fight to not make that your lifestyle.
#2 Learn how to discern.
There are many opportunities in this world. We get to choose how full we make our life. Learning how to discern exactly what the Lord has for you in each season can be difficult. A few ways we have done this over the years is by seeking God, processing with our spouse and seeking counsel from close trusted friends. As you make a big decision seek out those three groups of people and listen to what they have to say before you make a big change.
#3 Release your days to the Lord.
Lastly, release every day over to the Lord. Psalms 118:24 reminds us to surrender our whole life to God – one day at a time. The word says, “This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Choose to give every day over to God and trust it is a day that he has made. We can be glad in it – this helps us to release the stress, worry, and burden that life often throws at us. It allows us to be filled with the joy of the Lord, even when our circumstances don’t align with it.
You got this crazy cool families!
