Is your child asking questions about their faith? About the existence of God? About whether Jesus was real and is alive today?
Great!
Why do we say great?
-If they are asking you questions about their faith, it means they trust you with those questions and do not feel condemned for asking.
-Our faith can stand up to scrutiny, and as they ask questions, we can show them a real God for them to follow.
-We have to explore things before we can own them.
Questions about God and faith come at all ages. Obviously, the questions will be different — the three-year-old will ask, "Why did God make the sky?" while the fifteen-year-old will ask, "Why did a good God let my friend's parents get a divorce?" — but they are all exploring.
When those questions come, don't think you have to have all the answers, and for sure, don't be scared of them. Just engage in a welcoming dialogue, and if you don't know the answers, figure out your faith journey together with your kids.
