Sibling Struggles

Listen to Audio

Every sibling dynamic is unique and can go through challenging seasons. Siblings can sometimes hurt each other, especially when their different personalities lead to misunderstandings and conflict. If your children are having a hard time communicating positively, you’re not alone.

As parents, one supernatural way to counter negative interactions is by affirming our kids’ identities. God speaks identity over our kids constantly – we can tap into His perspective of our kids and help them believe it!

Kids often use their words as weapons, which can create emotional distance in sibling relationships. We can help them understand the impact of their words and model encouragement by speaking truth and identity into their lives. This involves intentionally calling out their strengths and expressing what we see in them.

The more we speak life (from God’s heart) to our children, the more the truth resonate in their minds, drowning out negativity. Instead of letting hurtful words define their relationships, we can foster a culture of support and encouragement.

We can also encourage siblings to see and appreciate the strengths in each other. This might feel awkward at first, but it’s a vital practice. By guiding them to recognize and affirm one another, we can create a spirit-filled environment where they learn to speak life into their relationships.

Ultimately, the goal is to build a family culture where kindness and encouragement thrive, helping siblings grow closer and learn to communicate in a loving, constructive way. We do this by declaring God-given identity over our relationships.
