The Right Kind of FOMO

Listen to Audio

“But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.” (Hebrews 12:22-24, NIV)

As parents and children, we often experience FOMO—the fear of missing out. We fear that following Jesus means missing out on the “fun” of life, perceiving faith as a path where we have to give up the good things of life for the hard things of faith.

But what if we changed our perspective? What if the real FOMO is missing out on the blessings of a Kingdom life?

Imagine a life where:

Our eternity is secure.
Our relationships are healthy.
We experience supernatural peace, love, and joy.
We have a clear and fulfilling purpose.
We are loved for who we are, not for what we do.
Jesus tells us in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”

The real FOMO we should feel is missing out on the things of God!

Life to the full is living for Jesus instead of for the fleeting things of the world. When we believe in the abundant life Jesus offers and model that belief for our children, they are more likely to embrace that perspective as well.
