Faith Simplified

Listen to Audio

As parents, our desire should be that our kids look to us as an example of what it looks to live a passionate life of faith. However, it can be easy for us to forget that oftentimes, we have quite a bit more experience and practice in spiritual disciplines than they do.

Just think about the variety of  ways you may live out your faith on a weekly basis...

  • Praying spirit-filled prayers
  • Studying scripture to pull out refining truth
  • Orienting your heart towards God’s promises in the midst of challenges
  • Serving in your church community
  • Encouraging other believers

Most of our kids are relatively new at this stuff! While it is an abundant blessing for your kids to see you live a mature life of faith, we should also look for opportunities to demonstrate simplicity in our faith practices.

Here are three ideas on how to demonstrate a simple faith with our kids. Do these things with them

  1. Short prayers. Prayers don’t always have to be long and eloquent. We can present our requests and thanks to God in short and simple prayers.
  1. Emphasize simple biblical truths. You know the story of Jonah? The big idea is to listen to God. Even for older kids and teens, simple truth is still important and impactful.
  1. Regularly express thanks. By consistently mentioning the simple things that we are thankful for, we help our kids reflect on what they are thankful for as well.

When we focus on the simplicity of faith, we help our kids develop a foundation that won’t easily be shaken!
