When is Isolation Good?

Listen to Audio

So much is written and discussed today about the isolation of our kids due to technology. But can isolation be good sometimes?

We say yes in certain circumstances.

Just like us, our kids are busy, busy, busy. School, church, extracurricular activities. It takes its toll on them just like it does with us.

Sometimes our kids just need some downtime. We say a lot at Crazy Cool Family “Our home should be a place where our kids get refreshed so they can go out and tackle the world.” When we say that, we are often talking about the way we parent our children but it also applies to helping them get rest as well.

When our boys are playing high school football, oftentimes they have to be a school at 5:30 AM for practices and then they had weight work at the end of the day. When they came home, they were exhausted and not really wanting to engage the family.

This was a great time for them to go upstairs, watch something mindless, and usually they wound up taking a nap before dinner. Then they could come down and engage with the family the rest of the evening.

Downtime is not evil. We need to help our kids with the pace of this world just like we help them with their homework.
